300: THE “THIS IS SPARTA” PHENOMINON

Famous films are often famous for their memorable quotations. Countless examples such as Apocalypse Now: “I love the smell of naphalm in the morning” for instant. 300 is no exception, it has become famous for the line “This is Sparta!” shouted by the lead role played by Gerard Butler. The qoute has been parodied and used again countless times. Mostly over the web, on the very popular site YouTube. Video parodies and remixes of the sound bite of the qoute can be found all over the site. As well as on Dailymotion.com. Although parodying is making fun of things, this phenominon must of generated alot of publicity for the film. A parody movie of 300 was also made: “Meet The Spartans”. Although the film may not have benefited Time Warner in terms of income directly (it was released by 20th Century Fox) it would have generated further publicity for the film it was parodying. 300 has benefited from the mass publicity that the internet can bring.
